Advantages and Disadvantages of Blackberry

BlackBerry Messenger can be a definite asset, if you want to exchange messages with other Blackberry users. With it, you can: Carry on a real-time conversation with friends and colleagues in several different locations -- or carry on several conversations simultaneously. Chat with a group. Send and receive an unlimited number of messages worldwide for free with no per-message charge. Get messages without filling up your inbox. Know whether a buddy is online, available or busy. Let your contacts know your own availability for instant messaging. Manage log-in and contacts as you would if you were using an IM program from your PC. Continue using other programs and send and receive e-mails while BlackBerry Messenger is running. Invite someone to join your buddy list and start communicating without setting up a separate IM account. Be notified by a specific ringtone or vibration setting each time a message arrives from a particular person. [sources: BlackBerry Connection, BlackBerry Messenger User Guide and CrackBerry] One disadvantage of BlackBerry Messenger is that you can't send an instant message to someone unless you know his or her PIN code, the eight-digit letter-and-number code assigned to that particular Blackberry device. However, the biggest disadvantage of BlackBerry Messenger may be that it only allows you to exchange instant messages with other BlackBerry users. Introduced in early 2006 as a feature of BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1, BlackBerry Messenger isn't compatible with popular IMing programs. That's because it works differently. With most instant messaging services, you download software that becomes the client on your computer or smartphone. That client connects to the provider's server, using a proprietary protocol for communication. Once you've logged on, the client sends the server your connection information (IP address), your computer port number and the names of everyone on your contact list. The server creates a temporary file with connection information for you and your contacts. Then the server determines which contacts are logged on and sends that information to your client, as well as letting the contacts know you're available. After that, the server is no longer involved, and all communication is between your client and that of your message recipient. With BlackBerry Messenger, however, the server stays involved as it would if you were sending e-mails. All communications go through parent-company Research in Motion's servers as you continue to exchange messages. That also means you can't use BlackBerry Messenger unless you have a BlackBerry Internet plan, or data plan [source: CrackBerry]. Next, let's explore what else you'll need to get started with BlackBerry Messenger and its basic functions.

The future in BB10

Imagine a world where a user can tell his phone, “Í am going into the bath, please in ten minutes get me a cab ready because I am going out on an important meeting” and alas in ten minutes, a driver less cab is waiting at the door. That is where Mobility is moving to; from phone to phone, on to phone to the car, the house and all that. That is apparently the vision that dove Research In Motion, RIM, to design the new Blackberry 10 device. If mobile phones are rated by mere looks, with its sleeky architectural design and bold screen, the new device would just have passed as another addition to the hordes of latest smartphones dotting the mobile space. But the latest piece of innovation goes beyond a mere smartphone. It is a technology of the future judging by the features. Blackberry arguably started the smartphone tradition, building its features in the yesteryear with today’s world in mind. But now, it probably has realised that technology is a moving phenomenon and apparently designed its latest device with the future world in mind. With the BB 10, Blackberry shifted from its former operating system to QNS. The BB10 was designed with the future in mind. Unlike the other blackberries, BB10 was not designed for everybody, but highly connect people, busy executives that would like to do many things at the same time. With previous models, people wanted a better browser, bigger screen stable and fluid UI that doesn’t freeze. Rich app and content ecosystem as well as cool architecture to suit their lifestyles. After considering all these RIM said it came up with BB10 which has all these and more but also sets a benchmark in the industry. The device understands and adapts, spreads the word in an instant and protects what is important and keep them handy. With the flick of the finger the user multitasks easily. There is a message hub in the BB10 where every message goes into. It is accessible on every application. With a little flick, the user can shift fingers and divide the screen to see the messages and continue with what he was doing. This feature is known as BB pick. The keyboard is adaptive. Before you type the word, it predicts it. In fact even if you use colloquial words or native languages, the phone would memorize and store them for future use. It predicts in three languages. Another feature is the Time shift. This helps detect the face structure and give the opportunity to choose which one to use. For instance if the picture shows one closing his eyes, with time shift you can print the picture returning to the image had eyes open. There is also the Blackberry balance, which protects the device that even when some other applications like games are open, your personal emails, apps and content will not be compromised. The app could be set that either work or personal apps can open and lock at given times. For the BB browser, the browser loads easily and quick to share with an amazing speed hard to see in other phones similar to BB 10. Meanwhile, BB Remember, also helps the user to manage and remember dates and engagements while calendar app also does that with a difference. The dates on your calendar get bigger as engagements for the day increases. The device supplies information on every participant to your engagements.. The Screen of BB 10 is made of glass on lens. It is new and different from the traditional gorilla glass. The phone does not freeze, it comes with 2gig RAM. Culled from 2013 Nigeria Spur Magazine. All rights reserved.
